October is when lifters in Las Vegas and Henderson start asking about January. The weather finally lets you train outside of 5 a.m., the holidays are eight weeks out, and a lot of people want a plan for the next year without signing up for months of coaching. That is what a 1-Time Strategy Plan at Built Thru It is for: one coaching call with Alexa May and a custom written plan you take with you, with no monthly commitment. This guide covers what the plan includes, who it fits, and why Q4 is a good time to book one.
What is a one-time strategy plan?
A one-time strategy plan is a single coaching session plus a custom written plan built from that conversation. You get expert eyes on your training, your nutrition, or your competition prep, and you leave with a document that tells you what to do next. There is no subscription and no weekly check-in schedule to keep up with.
At Built Thru It, the call is with Alexa May, a USA Weightlifting Level 1 and 2 coach who also holds CrossFit L1 and L2 certifications, a Precision Nutrition Level 1 certification, and a B.S. in Exercise Science from the University of Louisville. She has coached since 2015 and competed in CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting since 2013. The plan is written for your schedule, your equipment, and your goal. It does not come from a template.
Who is a one-time strategy plan a good fit for?
A strategy plan fits people who can follow a plan on their own but want a qualified coach to set the direction first. In practice, that usually means one of these situations:
- You train consistently but have stalled. Your squat or total has not moved in months, and you want someone to find the reason.
- You follow a program you found online. You want to know whether it suits your goal, your recovery, and the days you can actually train.
- You are preparing for a meet. The plan is meet-prep ready, so it can map out the weeks before a weightlifting competition, including when to peak.
- You want to eat better without a diet template. A strategy call can focus on nutrition: how to structure meals around training, what to prioritize first, and how to get through the holidays without losing progress.
- You are not ready for monthly coaching. Maybe the budget is tight going into the holidays, or you want to try working with Alexa before committing.
It is a weaker fit if you need weekly accountability to stay consistent. If you have started and stopped three programs this year, the program was probably fine and the follow-through was the gap. Ongoing 1:1 coaching fixes that better.
Why plan your 2027 training in October instead of January?
Planning in October gives you a running start, because the plan is already in place and tested by the time most people are writing New Year's resolutions. Between Halloween and New Year's Day, most people either coast through them or stop training completely, then restart from scratch in January.
A plan written now can do three things for you:
- Set a realistic holiday baseline. Thanksgiving travel, work parties, and a December with fewer training days are all predictable. A good plan builds them in, so a lighter week counts as part of the program instead of feeling like you fell off.
- Use the best training weather of the year. Fall in the Las Vegas Valley means you can train in a garage in Summerlin or Green Valley, or head to the gym at noon, without fighting 110-degree heat. That is a good window to build strength before winter.
- Give you data before the new year. By January you will know which parts of the plan work for your life and which need adjusting. You start 2027 with real numbers from October through December, which beats starting from a guess.
What should you bring to a strategy call?
The more specific information you bring, the more specific your written plan will be. Before the call, gather:
- Your goal in one sentence, such as a first weightlifting meet in spring, a stronger deadlift, better body composition, or training four days a week without burning out.
- Your current program: what you do each day, the weights, and how long you have been running it.
- Your real schedule, meaning the days and times you can train, including the weeks you already know will be busy in November and December.
- Your equipment, whether that is a commercial gym, a CrossFit box, or a home setup with a barbell, plates, and a rack.
- Video of your main lifts if you have it. A squat, a deadlift, or a clean filmed from the side shows a coach more than a description does.
- A few days of what you eat, if nutrition is part of the question.
You do not need all of it. A beginner can still get a useful plan from a clear goal and an honest schedule.
What does a strategy plan cover for training, nutrition, and meet prep?
The written plan covers whichever area you and Alexa decide to focus on during the call. The three most common are:
- Training: how many days to train, which lifts to prioritize, how to progress load week to week, and what to change when you stall. This works for strength athletes, Olympic lifters, and people training at home.
- Nutrition: targets matched to your goal, how to eat around your training days, and habits you can keep through Thanksgiving and December. The approach follows Built Thru It's coaching philosophy: individualized, sustainable, and free of restrictive rules.
- Competition prep: for weightlifters with a meet on the calendar, a timeline counted back from meet day, when to test lifts, and how to think about openers.
Some people split the call between training and nutrition. It depends on what is holding you back most right now.
Is a one-time strategy plan or monthly coaching better for you?
A one-time strategy plan is better when you need direction, and monthly coaching is better when you need ongoing adjustment and accountability. Here is the practical difference:
- 1-Time Strategy Plan: one call, one custom written plan, no monthly commitment. You run the plan yourself.
- 1:1 Nutrition Coaching: custom macros, weekly check-ins, habit coaching, meal planning, and accountability, adjusted as you go.
- 1:1 Training Only Program: custom training built around your equipment, schedule, and goals, from foundational technique to national-meet preparation.
Many people start with a strategy plan, run it through the holidays, and then decide whether they want weekly coaching in 2027. That way you find out what working with Alexa is like before committing to more.
How do you book a strategy plan in Las Vegas or Henderson?
You can buy a 1-Time Strategy Plan here and schedule your call. Because the session is a coaching call with a written plan, it works just as well for someone in Centennial Hills or Anthem as for someone training at a Spring Valley gym, and it works for lifters outside the valley too.
If you already know you want ongoing support, apply for coaching instead, or read more about strength and performance training and 1:1 nutrition coaching. If you are thinking about a first meet in 2027, the Olympic weightlifting coaching page explains how meet prep works. Book the call in October, run the plan through December, and start January with numbers you can build on.
